Day 1
Walter Sisulu Botanische tuin -> Bella Bella
To get into the mood and warm up, we start the first day with some easy birding in
the Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden, know for itss pair of Verreaux's Eagle that have been breeding on the cliffs for years! In the afternoon we leave Johannesburg and we willl expand the species list around the accommodation in Bella Bella.
Day 2

Birding Zaagkuilsdrift -> Magoebaskloof
Today's program is Zaagkuilsdrift, a 25 km long gravel road that is home to a number of 'greater Karoo' species. Here we are looking forward to Crimson-breasted Shrike, Southern Pied Babbler and Kalaharis Scrub-robin, among others. Especially after the rains, this area is a true oasis of various wettlands birds such as Dwarf Bittern, Greater Painted Snipe, crakes and Streaky-breasted Flufftail. In the afternoon we continue towards the north: Magoebaskloof. Here we will birdwatch in the garden and around the accommodation upon arrival.

Day 3
Forest birding in Magoebaskloof -> Paradise River Lodge

In the morning we mainly focus on birding in the Magoebaskloof forest. Here is a local guide  will help us to see ass much as possible. Some target species for the day include Cape Parrot, Blue-spotted Wood Dove, Bathawk, Black-fronted Bush-shrike and many more!

We will stay at Paradise River Lodge in Ndlovumzi nature reserve for the next two nights. During winter months there is a chance of hearing and seeing the Pel's Fishing Owl!

Day 4
Blyde river Canyon

In the first light we will try to highlight White-backed Night Heron and Half-collared Kingfisher. After this, a boat trip on the Blyde dam is on the program. In addition to the crocodiles and hippos we will look out for the African Finfoor.
Other good species we have a chance of seeing are African Crowned Eagle and Lemon Dove during a short walk to a waterfall and short boardwalk with canopy tower.

Day 5 & 6
Kruger

An early wake-up call, because we leave early for the Kruger Park where we will stay for 2 nights. In addition to bird watching, we also focus on the big 5 and everything else beautiful, as the species of the trip is always a mammal. Species we can expect here include White-headed, Lappet-facet Vulture, Southern Hornbill and Kori Bustard. We will also regularly visit a main camp or picnic spot where we can walk around. It is possible to do a night drive in the evening!

Day 7
Kruger (morning) -> Wakkerstroom

We will leave Kruger from the south for a good drive towards Wakkerstroom. Of course we will still spend the morning hours around our camp. We will make a number of stops along the way to expand the species list stretch our legs.

Day 8
Wakkerstroom

South Africa is known for its many larks and Wakkerstroom is one of the best places to look for larks. Today we will look for the endangered Rudd's Lark, but also for the species such as the Yellow-breasted Pipit, Southern Balled Ibis, Blue- and White-bellied Korhaan. Here we will again be supported by a local guide who knows all the local spots like the back of his hand. There is also a good chance that we will regularly encouter a group of Meerkats today.

Day 9 & 10
Towards Mkuze

Today we go to one of the best birding spots in South Africa: Mkuze, with more than 420 bird spevies observed!
Hee we will spend the night in the park to get as much out it as possible!
They have done a good job on the hides in recent years and we will spend a lot of time here. Target species here are Neergaards's Sunbird, Pink-throated Twinspot and if the weather permits we will look for the Pel
's Fishing Owl in the Fever Tree forest under guidance of a ranger

Day 11 & 12
Birding Mkuze (morning) -> St. Lucia

In the morning there will still be a lot of birding in Mkuze to focus on any missed species! After breakfast our journey continues, this time towards the coast, namely St. Lucia.
St. Lucia is best know for the hippos that walk through the streets in the evening. We will visit a piece of forest here one morning with a local guide and we will go to the iSimangaliso park, where we have a chance to see Southern Banded Snake Eagle, lesser Moorhen and Rufous-bellied Heron. We will also take a look at the beach where groupt of terns and waders van regularly be found.

Day 13
Ongoye nature reserve -> Dlinza

In the morning we drive to the Ongoyle nature reserve, perhaps the only place in South Africa where the Green Barbet can be found. After this we drive to Dlinza. Here a 125 meter long board walk between the treetops is the main attraction. Here you have the chance to come face to face with Narino Trogons and Purple-crested Turacos. Other target species include Spotted Ground Thrush and Eastern Bronze-winged Pigeon. This is also the best place for the smalles duiker species: Blue Duiker and more than 70 species of butterflies have been recorded.

Day 14
Roselands nature reserve, Blue Swallow -> Underberg

In the early hours we visit Dlinza again and then set course for Underberg. We will of course make a few stops along the way for both birds and stretching the leggs.

In the summer months we drive by the grasslands aroun Richmond, there are ideal for the blue Swallow, wich is rare in South Africa, there are probably only 30 pairs left!

Day 15
Birding Sani pass

In the morning we will be picked up by a local guide with his 4x4, who will take care of us, The Sani pass is not only good for birdwatching, but the view are also breathtaking. The pass starts at the foot of the Drakensberg in South Africa and ends at the top of the mountains in the Kingdom of Lesotho. During the climb up we encounter various targets such as the Drakensberg Rockjumper, Ground Woodpecker, Bearded Vulture and Mountain Pipit (summer). But down in the grasslands it is also full of good species and we look for the Wattled Crane, Red-winged Francolin, Denham's Bustard and Buff-spotted Flufftail (summer)

Day 16
Birding Underberg -> Golden Gate

Before departure, we will of course first bird around our accommodation again. After this we will slowly drive back in the direction of Johannesburg. But first we stop at the Golden Gate nature reserve, which is best know for the Southern Bald Ibis that breed here and the vulture restaurant. Once a carcass has been deposited, different species of vultures come and go!

Day 17
Towards Johannesburg

Unfortunately, today is already the last day. We drive slowly back towards Johannesburg, but of course we don't sit still. Half an hour's drive from Johannesburg, we stop at Suikerbos nature reserve to make the last hours! We are trying expand the list with the last species in the high grassland!
